Collaborating with a Berlin based artist, aim was to develop an Art Installation Shirt by using organic cotton from CO2 neutral production. The missing link was sustainable screen-printing. Pigments, binders and surface chemistry were checked on human and environmental health criteria. On checking the ingredients, a white mineral pigment and one binder were selected for the Art Installation. The presence of heavy metals and halogenated compounds in many dyes and pigments, in our opinion, was ecologically not justifiable. As a consequence, on possible disposal routes no toxic substances are released, e.g. potential dioxins during incineration or environmentally harmful residues during a recycling process.

The knowledge of this artisanal project was transferred to semi-industrial printing of packaging for certified natural cosmetics and cleaning products.
